Welcome to Il Primo

Il Primo is one of the longest-established Italian restaurants in Dublin's city centre. For over a decade, Il Primo has been serving rustic Italian food paired with some of the best wines that Tuscany has to offer. Most of its wines are imported directly to Il Primo and cannot be found anywhere else in Ireland.

The restaurant is located in a romantic period house, which has been converted into a lively, homely bar area and a cosy and intimate dining room, located five minutes from St. Stephen's Green. The emphasis throughout Il Primo is on providing some of the finest wines from Tuscany with a range of simple and delicious Italian dishes in the heart of Dublin.

"This long established Italian restaurant changed hands in 2007 and reopened with chef Anita Thoma and front of house man John Farrell as the new owners. They spruced up the restaurant into a smart continental style, but the old fashioned warmth remains - and the giant picture window, where customers can see and be seen, is still the most striking feature.

The ever-friendly John Farrell welcomes Italianophiles into the tiny downstairs dining area, which looks through the service bar area to the kitchen. More seating is available upstairs in two other dining rooms, though downstairs is the popular choice with regulars. Il Primo specialises in rustic Italian food, matched by mostly Tuscan wines. The wine list has long been famed and is rightly renowned, with wine imported directly from the wineries offering some unique treats as well as good prices."

The many simple dishes often have a curious twist and are evidence of Anita Thoma's wide repertory of rustic Italian food. Il Primo's informally stylish atmosphere makes it a perfect venue for the casual foodie as well as those looking for a treat without formality."
